2 O Sullivan s Paralegal Technology program is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year. Launched in 1991, it flourished from its inception and quickly adapted itself to the professional market. Under the capable guidance of Sylvie Leclair and Jacynthe Blier, who were instrumental in its development, along with an excellent team of teachers, the program became known for its successful graduates in the legal field and still prides itself for this distinction. In the twenty years of its existence, the Paralegal program has graduated more than eight hundred paralegals who work throughout Quebec and outside the province. They find employment not only in the legal field but also branch out to various associations and businesses. Some students become bailiffs while others pursue further studies in university, becoming lawyers and notaries. For example, one graduate is doing a Masters degree in International Law and was chosen to do a six-month internship for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, Switzerland. Another graduate, now a notary, is completing a Ph.D. and holds a prestigious position in the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa. As proof that studies pertaining to law can lead to many diverse opportunities, gradua tes also often hold positions as supervisors or directors of various departments. One former student was even involved in co-writing a book on legal doctrine. The College, confident in its own, doesn t hesitate to hire its graduates. Two former students have already taught at O Sullivan and several others come back as speakers to discuss their professional experience with present students. Thanks to such contacts, our graduates often become employers to other O Sullivan students! O Sullivan is proud of having the opportunity to develop in students both the knowledge and skills for their future careers. The students consequently enter the job market not only well-prepared but bringing with them their own perseverance and dedication. This unique combination is one for which they are profes sionally known, and which makes them the greatest testament to the College s success. With much pride, O Sullivan welcomes back its Paralegal alumni to celebrate their numerous achievements with staff on Friday, May 6, 2011, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Corpo2Dec Les critiques de la vidéo présentée lors des retrouvailles pour les cinq ans du programme de Technologie des médias et plateau de tournage ont été si bonnes, qu'une autre vidéo corporative a été produite sous la supervision de messieurs François Protat et Michel Motard, accompagnés de sept stagiaires, Rémi Beaulieu, Valérie Dupras, Annick Labrecque, Saïd El Maataoui, Yves-Rémy Manzi, Sébastien Mockle et Guy-Antoine St-Cyr. Corpo2Dec retrace le succès des diplômés en Techniques juridiques, l'un des deux programmes DEC du collège. La première est prévue pour le vendredi 6 mai Corpo2Dec, a production by the above-named Media Technology teachers and interns, highlights the success of some of our Paralegal graduates. This video will premiere on Friday, May 6, during the reunion.

3 . Le programme de Techniques juridiques du Collège O Sullivan fête cette année ses 20 ans. Lancé en 1991, il n a cessé de croître et sa formation a été adaptée aux attentes du milieu professionnel. C est grâce à des professeurs de la première heure comme Sylvie Leclair et Jacynthe Blier ainsi qu à une excellente équipe que ce programme a connu et connaît encore une renommée qui se mesure au succès de ses diplômés dans le milieu juridique. Depuis 20 ans, plus de 800 techniciens juridiques ou parajuristes diplômés du collège se retrouvent partout au Québec, et même à l extérieur de la province. Ils oeuvrent non seulement dans le milieu proprement dit de la justice, mais aussi dans de nombreux contentieux d entreprises et d associations. Certains sont huissiers de justice et d autres, poursuivent leurs études à l université et deviennent avocats ou notaires. Une diplômée fait même sa maîtrise en droit international et a été choisie pour effectuer un stage de six mois au Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés à Genève. Une autre, maintenant notaire, complète un doctorat et occupe aujourd hui un poste prestigieux à la Faculté de droit de l Université d Ottawa. Enfin, comme preuve que le droit mène à tout, plusieurs accèdent à des postes importants au sein de grandes entre prises en supervision de personnel ou en direction de département. Un finissant a même participé à la rédaction d un livre de doctrine. Le collège, confiant de la qualité de sa formation, n hésite pas à employer ses propres diplômés. En effet, deux d entre eux ont déjà enseigné au collège et plusieurs y reviennent comme conférenciers pour témoigner de leur expérience de travail auprès de nos étudiants. La réussite de nos diplômés nous fait honneur. Fidèle à la mission qu il s est donné, le collège leur transmet les connaissances et les compétences afin que chacun trouve sa place sur le marché du travail. Une fois les portes du collège franchies, nos élèves se démarquent par leur persévé rance et leur réalisation devenant ainsi nos meilleurs ambassadeurs. C est avec beaucoup de fierté que le collège convie ses diplômés à célébrer leur succès avec leurs professeurs et les membres du personnel le vendredi 6 mai, de 17 h à 20 h. 5 Le Prix du Président du Collège O Sullivan En 2010, la direction du Collège a créé le Prix du président à la mémoire de Monsieur J.R. Rousseau, président du Collège O Sullivan de 1961 à Ce prix a pour but de souligner sa remarquable contribution au développement du Collège pendant plus de 45 ans. Le Prix du président a été décerné à deux diplômées du Collège qui se sont distinguées pour leur implication et leurs réalisations professionnelles. Madame Khadidja Abed a obtenu son Attestation d études collégiales en Techniques de bureau en À la fin de son programme, Madame Abed a été embauchée par la firme SNC-Lavalin et par la suite chez Teknika. En 2006, elle fait appel au service de placement du Collège O Sullivan et on lui propose un poste d adjointe à Téléfilm Canada. Depuis ce temps, elle a été promue au poste de coordonnatrice de projets, administratrice de programmes de télévision. The President s Award of O Sullivan College In 2010, the administration of the College created the President s Award in memory of Mr. J.R. Rousseau, President of O Sullivan College from 1961 to This award honors his remarkable contribution to the development of the College for more than forty-five years. The President s Award was presented to two O Sullivan graduates who distinguished themselves for their involvement and achievements in their careers. Ms. Tania Walker received her Diploma of Collegial Studies in Paralegal Technology from O Sullivan College in She worked as a paralegal from 2002 to She obtained her Bachelor s degree in law from the University of Quebec in Montreal in Mme Monique Rousseau, épouse de M. Rodolphe Rousseau (Président du Collège O'Sullivan, 1961 à 2010), et Mme Khadidja Abed Mrs. Monique Rousseau and Ms. Tania Walker She is presently doing her Master s degree in Common Law and Transnational Law at the University of Sherbrooke. She was chosen to do an internship at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, Switzerland, for six months. Conférence Techniques juridiques / Paralegal Past and Present Paralegals Share Questions and Practical Wisdom Nos étudiants de troisième année de techniques juridiques, qui font actuellement leur stage en milieu de travail, ont eu la chance de rencontrer, les 14 janvier et 25 février 2011, deux finissants du Collège, très impliqués auprès d associations professionnelles de parajuristes. On January 14, 2011, Ms. Kelly Cardoso (Paralegal 02) spoke to our students about CAP (Canadian Association of Paralegals) and explained the advantages of being a member of this association which regroups paralegals from all provinces of Canada. She also was very helpful in answering students questions regarding career opportunities and about life as a paralegal. On February 25, 2011, Mr. Gianni Chiazzese (Paralegal 01) informed our students of the existence of a relatively new provincial association, l Association des parajuristes du Québec, that focuses its efforts on the specific needs of paralegals in Quebec. Mr. Chiazzese explained that its ultimate goal is to create a Professional Order for paralegals. He furthermore had much exciting information to relay to the students about their own job opportunities and the future of the paralegal profession itself. Les deux conférenciers se sont adressés aux étudiants avec beaucoup d enthousiasme et ont fourni de l information très pertinente. Ces discussions ont suscité un vif intérêt de la part des étudiants. Nous aimerions profiter de cette occasion pour remercier chaleureusement nos finissants de leur précieuse collaboration. Marie-Lou Lafrance et Georgia Roumeliotis, Professeures en Techniques juridiques et avocates O Sullivan plus VERT que jamais! O Sullivan Green Just Got GREENER! LES EFFORTS AMORCÉS IL Y A QUELQUES ANNÉES SE POURSUIVENT DE PLUS BELLE! En plus de plusieurs mesures visant à protéger l environne - ment, telles la collecte du papier-brun essuie-main pour le compostage et l acquisition de bacs verts de recyclage pour toutes les classes, une semaine de l environnement a eu lieu au collège à l automne Avec l aide de Mme Louise Matte, stagiaire du programme de gestion et prévention environnementales du CEGEP de Rosemont, notre comité vert, supervisé par Orly Cohen, responsable du Service aux étudiants, a organisé plusieurs activités : conférences sur la consommation responsable donnés par des étudiants à la maîtrise de l Université de Sherbrooke, tables d information de la Fondation Suzuki, Equiterre, Les amis de la montagne, Sustainable Concordia et l Eco-Quartier Peter-McGill. Pour couronner tous ses efforts, le collège est en bonne voie d obtenir la certification de niveau 2 de Recyc-Québec. A few years ago, O Sullivan began a mission to join the environmental movement and make conscious efforts to gain recognition as a school that practices sound green habits. These changes often begin small, such as remembering to turn off lights in a room, turning off unnecessarily running water, and, of course, recycling, recycling, and recycling! This Fall, we were very pleased to have with us an intern from CEGEP de Rosemont, Mme Louise Matte, to help us achieve our goals. With the added help of the O Sullivan Green Committee, we held workshops, organised an environment week, welcomed guest speakers, abolished plastic and Styrofoam cups, and started a program to send out all brown paper towels for composting. This semester, we are building on the momentum we gained and celebrating our achievements in April, which is Earth Month. 6 Des nouvelles des ANCIENS Alumni NEWS EILEEN HANLEY, Paralegal 94 Eileen has been working as a corporate paralegal since she graduated and loves what she does. She is Supervising Paralegal of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP s corporate services department. Among her numerous tasks at Osler, she has worked on the sale of Bombardier s recreational products, the sale of Yellow Pages by Bell and the acquisition of La Senza by Limited Brands. She is a former member of the Board of Directors and the former President of the Canadian Association of Paralegals (CAP), for which she currently serves as Business Law Education Coordinator and member of its mentoring committee. She is also a member of the board and VP Northeast of the International Paralegal Management Association. Eileen has received many acknowledgements for her accomplishments throughout her career, the most recent being in 2010 when she was awarded the 2010 CAP Award for Excellence. STÉPHANIE DERAÎCHE, Paralegal 95 Stéphanie is very excited to write that at the ripe old age of forty she will be called to the bar this August. She is presently interning at a law firm in Old Montreal and remains in contact with past graduates Dina Dimitratos and Sonia Gaudet. She intends to get in touch with a few other classmates and looks forward to seeing everyone on May 6 at the reunion. MAX MAMBRO, Business Administration 97 Max is currently successfully employed in the transportation industry and enjoys his free time with his wife and two beautiful children. As he says himself, What more could I ask for?! ISABELLE OUELLET, Techniques juridiques 99 Tout en travaillant comme technicienne juridique, Isabelle a poursuivi ses études en droit à l Université du Québec. Elle est membre du Barreau depuis 2006 et est maintenant avocate plaideur-conseil à la Commission de protection du territoire agricole du Québec. Elle ne sera pas des nôtres lors des retrouvailles 2011, car elle fait partie d une troupe de théâtre amateur qui est en représentation ce soir-là. Isabelle n a que de bons mots pour le collège, qui dit-elle, l a grandement fait évoluer. NATAÉ BONNOT, Techniques administratives 01 Depuis avril 2009, Nataé est coordonnatrice des activités de collectes de fonds pour la Fondation des étoiles qui vient en aide aux enfants malades. Elle s apprête à relever de nouveaux défis : l organisation d évènements corporatifs importants, dont plusieurs encans de vins et le Bal des étoiles. Nataé apprécie la variété de son travail pour lequel elle applique toutes les notions apprises pendant sa formation au Collège O'Sullivan, ainsi que lors de ses études pour obtenir un Certificat en gestion d'entreprise et une Attestation d'études collégiales en coordination d'événements et de congrès. REMEMBERING Dawn Wiltsie NADIA OROBELLO, Business Administration 02 After getting her B.A. in Sociology from Concordia, during which time she worked at Ivanhoe Cambridge, a commercial real estate company, Nadia spent four years at Saputo in Corporate Communications, specifically in the donations and sponsorships department. After four years, she decided she wanted to return to her roots in marketing and is now assistant manager in marketing at The Gazette. KHALI P. AMENI, Techniques administratives 03 Khali est gestionnaire aux services financiers à la Banque TD depuis cinq ans et se prépare à obtenir son titre de planificateur financier. Ce passionné de musique a fondé un groupe, LeBand, qui a participé à plusieurs enregistrements de spectacles d artistes canadiens au Festival de jazz de Toronto, Montréal et Ottawa. Grâce à son groupe, Khali est grandement impliqué dans sa communauté et son église. Il est connu sous le nom d artiste Khalius Markus. CAROLINA YAJAIRA ARARAT, O.S.T. 03 After graduation, Carolina worked as a teller at TD Canada Trust and afterwards as an administrative assistant for Drummond Designs, an architectural company, during which time she also bought her first house and became a happy mother to twin boys (who are now five). Looking for a change of pace, Carolina then followed dental secretary studies and worked in a dental office. Presently, she is a receptionist and assistant at an ophthalmologist office. She credits her varied work experience and opportunities largely to O Sullivan, which she believes opened many doors to her. ÉMILIE MERCIER, Techniques juridiques 04 Depuis 2005, Émilie est huissière chez Hainault Gravel à St-Hubert. Elle considère que sa profession est un domaine à découvrir et a bien hâte au 6 mai! JEAN-PIERRE DESMARAIS, Plateau de tournage 05 Le premier court-métrage réalisé par Jean-Pierre, The Bench, a été sélectionné, pour une deuxième fois, à un festival. Il avait été sélectionné une première fois, au FICFA (Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie) et il fait maintenant partie du programme du Festival international du film francophone qui a eu lieu à Toronto du 25 mars au 3 avril Bravo, Jean-Pierre! MAHSA KHOSHBIN, Techniques juridiques 05 Dès l obtention de son diplôme, Masha est engagée à titre d analyste juridique à la banque BNP Paribas ou elle restera deux ans. Puis, elle travaille chez GE Commercial Finance. Elle est présentement à l emploi d Iscanco Inc., une société d investissement immobilier. Son travail consiste à rechercher de nouvelles opportunités d investissement, à vérifier les offres d achat, les baux et les autres documents égaux. De plus, elle poursuit ses études en droit à l Université de Montréal. It is with sadness that we share the news of Ms. Dawn Wiltsie s passing on October 12, 2010, at her home in Kingston, Ontario. Ms. Wiltsie was Director of Studies at O Sullivan College from 1971 to 1986 during which time she demons trated strong guidance and vision. Under her leadership, O Sullivan College enriched its secretarial program by creating secretarial specializations in the legal, medical, tourism, and executive fields. She was also instrumental in bringing bilingualism to the curriculum. Dawn is fondly remembered for both the respect she had for the College and the respect she earned from her colleagues, and the diligence and rigour she invested in her job. She is survived by her beloved husband, Grant Fletcher. EMILIE LEMIEUX-GUÉNARD, Techniques juridiques 07 Après deux ans comme technicienne juridique dans un cabinet d avocats criminalistes à Montréal, Emilie termine sa deuxième année d études en droit à l Université d Ottawa. JAMES CORK, Plateau de tournage 07 James est directeur artistique pour Animated Storyboards. Il termine sa formation à New York avant d aller s installer à Londres. Dans ses moments de loisir, il a réalisé un vidéoclip pour le groupe Victoria and Jacob en plus d un court métrage, Kids Rule, dans lequel action et science-fiction se mêlent. AMILIE SIROIS, Assurance de dommage 07 Après deux ans chez Dale Parizeau Morris Mackenzie, Amilie est retournée dans sa ville natale, Drummondville, et est agentsouscripteur chez Promutuel Drummond. Elle a ses propres clients et commence même à travailler pour de petites entreprises. En septembre, elle entreprendra ses examens commerciaux. Amélie est bien fière d avoir étudié au collège et apprécie recevoir des nouvelles de la grande famille O Sullivan. WILLIAM FURTADO, Plateau de tournage 08 William est coordonnateur technique pour la compagnie Trio Orange, une compagnie de production télévisuelle. Il travaille plus particu lièrement sur le plateau des magazines télé Guide Restos Voir et Voir Télé, qui a gagné un prix Gémeaux en 2010 pour le meilleur magazine culturel. De plus, il est de la nouvelle émission de cuisine qui sortira en mars, Jehanne et moi. Il prépare aussi l équipement pour les tournages extérieurs et fait des tests d image pour les projets en développement. FRANCIS RIENDEAU, Plateau de tournage 08 Après un séjour à Paris où il a travaillé pour une boîte de production de documentaires, de films de fiction et Imax, Francis est de retour à Montréal à l AQTIS et à TVA. MICHEL BENIGNIO, Paralegal 09 After graduating from O Sullivan, Michel moved to Quebec City but he is now working for the Ministère de la Justice du Quebec in the Longueuil Courthouse as a court clerk. He often thinks of going back to school to pursue further studies, but has decided not to make the decision until the moment is right. JOTEE CHEEKOORY-AUDAB, Bureautique juridique 09 Jotee est adjointe juridique en droit corporatif chez Fasken Martineau depuis janvier 2010 et elle adore son travail. Elle nous annonce que Marina Furnica 09 a eu un bébé et habite maintenant Gatineau. Félicitations! MELISA LATTANZIO, Paralegal 09 After beginning her career where she did her internship, Melisa shortly thereafter made a move to join First Canadian Title as a paralegal. She is very enthusiastic about her job, her incredible coworkers, and the challenges she meets on a daily basis. After the suggestion was made that she might want to consider furthering her studies in order to have even more opportunities to grow with the company, Melisa decided to begin working on obtaining a permit as a damage insurance agent with the AMF (Autorité des marchés financiers). She is happy to see some present O Sullivan interns getting their training at FCT!

7 EDITH LAJULE, Techniques juridiques 10 Edith travaille à Sherbrooke en droit corporatif. Elle s occupe de la tenue des livres de minutes, fait des transferts et des ventes d action. Elle apprécie l autonomie qu elle a dans son travail et le contact direct avec les clients. Elle prévoit poursuivre ses études en droit à l université en septembre 2012, mais toujours en droit corporatif! JOSIANE LEBLANC SIROIS, Plateau de tournage 10 C est grâce à son enthousiasme, son expérience auprès des chevaux et ses cours au collège que Josiane a obtenu un emploi permanent comme machiniste pour le spectacle Cavalia présenté en Californie. Josiane est très reconnaissante à M. François Protat qui l a inspiré et incité à ne pas lâcher prise même dans les moments difficiles du tournage chez MEL s. JEAN-FRANÇOIS RAYNAUD, Plateau de tournage 10 Après un stage passionnant en régie et à la réalisation du long métrage Frisson des collines, Jean-François participe avec le distributeur au lancement du film, notamment en coordonnant le dossier de presse. TARA WILSON, Medical Records 10 Tara has been working at the Lakeshore General Hospital since graduating in June, but was fortunate to take three weeks off in August to travel in Europe. She then returned with full zeal to her work, which currently involves analyzing and coding charts, and doing research projects. Beginning in April of this year, she will start the cancer registry program for the hospital. Despite her busy schedule, she is happy to pass along a big thanks to all the teachers who helped [her] along the way to a great career! A Wealth of Information from HEALTH INFORMATION SPECIALISTS O Sullivan Welcomes Guests from CHIMA The week before Spring Break brought two guest speakers, both CHIMA (Canadian Heath Information Management Asso - cia tion) representatives to O Sullivan to address the Medical Records students. Ms. Val Alston, Chair of the CHIMA Board of Directors; and Ms. Sylvie Daoust Olivier, Oncology Registrar at Centre Hospitalier de Verdun, presented the vision and the mission of this professional association. The speakers discussed the fact that as a national association, CHIMA supports continuing education and professional practice of Health Information Management (HIM) professionals, develops strategic partnerships to advance the development and integration of electronic HIM, and strengthens the HIM role in health care settings. Furthermore, it also partners with educational institutions (such as O Sullivan) to develop the competencies for the HIM profession. Students were also sensitized to the important role their future careers have in the medical system. Medical record specialists contribute to client care and safety by providing accurate and accessible health information and, importantly, securing the confidentiality of personal health information. The increasing demand for such expertise is reflected by the growing number of our students enrolled in this program and in the fact that the Medical Records program at O Sullivan has grown to be officially recognized by the CHIMA association. Given the excellent student attendance at this activity and the interesting exchanges that took place, we look forward to repeating this experience again next year. Our team, raising over $ and once again winning the award for greatest amount collected by a school, braved the frosty temperatures to show our long-standing support for the cause. The pre-medical/pre-dental Student Association of McGill team, officially calling themselves Mcgill Med-p/Dent-p , won the Susanne Rousseau Award for being the first-time participating school/group to raise the most amount of money.
