MARRIAGE: Please contact our parish office at least 6 months prior to your scheduled wedding date, to schedule a meeting with one of our Priests. In your initial meeting with the Priest couples must bring the following documents: Baptismal Certificate, First Communion Certificate and Confirmation certificate. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Sacramental preparation for First communion and Confirmation is offered for Public School students in grades 1 through 10. All children should be registered before attending class. 3 FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT First Reading: Ezekiel 37:12-14 This reading is a loving promise that the Lord will put His spirit into his people and will let them live. Second Reading: Romans 8:8-11 Paul reminds the Romans that they are not people of the flesh but people of the Spirit because the Spirit of God dwells in them. Gospel: John 11:1-45 In great detail, John tells the story of the raising of Lazarus to life. Upon learning of the death of Lazarus, his dear friend, Jesus goes to comfort Martha and Mary. After proclaiming, I am the Resurrection and the Life, Jesus goes to the tomb of Lazarus and restores him to life. Those of us who have lost a beloved family member or friend know how Martha and Mary must have felt. Their brother Lazarus died. And Jesus did not protect them from the pain of mourning. In fact, Jesus wept, too, and was deeply troubled. But death is never the end of the story for Jesus or those who believe in him. "I am the resurrection and the life," Jesus tells Martha. At Jesus' command, Lazarus, all bound up in burial wrappings, slowly emerges from the tomb. What a scene that must have been! And what a promise to us! This story is seen as a foretaste of the resurrection of Jesus, and of our own resurrection, too. During the weeks of Lent, we are preparing to celebrate resurrection. Do you see any "foretastes of resurrection joy" around you? In nature? In the love of your family and friends? In the care and concern of neighbors? In your own heart? If you do, you will be following in the footsteps of Jesus and all the saints. These signs of resurrection may not be as dramatic as Lazarus' rising from the dead, but they are just as real. How many do you experience? Keep looking for them this week! CONFESSION DAY St. Joseph s Church and all the Parishes of Rockland County will be hosting a Day for Confession on April 14, 2014 from 12:00Noon-6:00pm. 4 QUINTO DOMINGO DE CUARESMA Primera Lectura: Ezequiel 37:12-14 Esta lectura es una amorosa promesa de que el Señor pondrá Su espíritu en su pueblo y les permitirá vivir. Segunda Lectura: Romanos 8:8-11 Pablo les recuerda a los romanos que ellos no son gente de la carne, sino gente del Espíritu, puesto que el Espíritu de Dios vive en ellos. Evangelio: San Juan 11:1-45 Con gran detalle, Juan cuenta la historia de la resurrección de Lázaro. Al enterarse de la muerte de Lázaro, su amigo amado, Jesús va a consolar a Marta y a María. Después de proclamar Yo soy la resurrección y la vida, Jesús va a la tumba de Lázaro y le devuelve la vida. Devuélvenos a la vida Padre de vivos y muertos, tú has prometido abrir los sepulcros y hacer que todas las gentes vuelvan a vivir en el Espíritu. Abre los sepulcros en nuestras mentes y en nuestros corazones, para que experimentemos tu gran amor y demos testimonio de la resurrección de tu Hijo. Danos una fe fuerte, como a tus siervas, Marta y María, a cuyo hermano sacó Cristo de la tumba. Que cuando sintamos las ataduras del sepulcro, la oscuridad y el pecado, nos acerquemos al sacramento de la reconciliación para romper esos lazos. 5 1ère lecture : Le peuple mort va revivre (Ez 37, 12-14) Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu : Je vais ouvrir vos tombeaux et je vous en ferai sortir, ô mon peuple, et je vous ramènerai sur la terre d'israël. Vous saurez que je suis le Seigneur... Psaume : Ps 129, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6ab, 7bc-8 Auprès du Seigneur est la grâce, la pleine délivrance. Des profondeurs je crie vers toi, Seigneur, Seigneur, écoute mon appel! Que ton oreille se fasse attentive au cri de ma prière! Si tu retiens les fautes, Seigneur, Seigneur, qui 2ème lecture : Celui qui a ressuscité Jésus vous donnera la vie (Rm 8, 8-11) Frères, sous l'emprise de la chair, on ne peut pas plaire à Dieu. Or, vous, vous n'êtes pas sous l'emprise de la chair, mais sous l'emprise de l'esprit, puisque l'esprit de Dieu h... Evangile : Mort et résurrection de Lazare (Lecture brève : 11, ) (Jn 11, 1-45) Un homme était tombé malade. C était Lazare, de Béthanie, le village de Marie et de sa sœur Marthe. (Marie est celle qui versa du parfum sur le Seigneur et lui... Un enseignement pour la foi Le deuil frappe une famille. Ce sont des amis de Jésus, une fratrie. Et l auteur de ce récit s applique à mettre en avant le sens des faits et gestes de Jésus face à cet événement. Manifestement, ce n est pas qu un deuil. Marthe et Marie. Ces deux sœurs ont accompagné leur frère jusqu au bout de sa maladie. Elles ne sont plus opposées dans «l agitation» et «l écoute». Désormais, elles sont unies dans une même foi: «Seigneur, si tu avais été là, mon frère ne serait pas mort.» Leurs paroles n ont pas le ton de la révolte ni de la récrimination, mais celui de la conviction que Jésus est le Fils de Dieu. Les disciples. Ces compagnons fidèles ne cessent de ramener le Maître «à la réalité»: «Revenir en Judée? Mais, tu n y penses pas!» «Si Lazare dort, il se réveillera bien un jour» Sauf que Lazare est mort et non pas endormi. En témoins privilégiés, les disciples gardent en mémoire des paroles énigmatiques restées obscures jusqu au jour de Pâques. Jésus. Il attend deux jours avant de se rendre auprès de ses amis dans l épreuve. Il a l air de faire de cet événement un cas d école, un enseignement pour la foi de ceux qui sont là Cependant, il est touché par la souffrance de ses amies. Jésus pleure la mort de Lazare. Autrement dit, tout n est pas «calculé» d avance. La tension tangible dans ce récit ressemble à celle de notre vie de foi. Notre foi est une foi pascale. Puissions-nous dire, à la suite des Apôtres, avec Marthe, Marie, et même Lazare: oui, Jésus est maître de la vie.
