(professional courses and initial training). CAREER CENTRE AllFLDstudentsarerequiredtointernfor a minimum of eight weeks (undergraduates) or four months (postgraduates). The Career Centre is managed by a team of professional advisors who can tell students about how hiring and career building works in practice. The Career Centre team also offers: Advice about postgraduate opportunities, crossdisciplinary training Individual and group training for CVs, cover letters, job interviews, internship and job seeking Job fares, company-specific events and job dating sessions in February, with over forty companies and hundreds of internship or job interviews organised on site. The Career Centre advises over 400 students yearly through personalised interviews. It manages a database of 500+ internship and job offers for students, ranging from summer jobs to fulltime employment opportunities, and organises monthly meetings between students and professionals. This new way of teaching, which breaks away from traditional methods, puts the student at the centre of their own education so they can be a real stakeholder in the process. The new method will be implemented over the following academic years. Refl ection, interactivity, analysis and practical application are the keywords of this new method. AIMS PROMOTE interactivity and exchange between students and teachers. ENCOURAGE the understanding and internalisation of legal notions or concepts (by combining theory with practice on the same day). LEAD the student to acquire an initial knowledge base resulting from their own refl ections on the subject, using pre-reads (document given to them by the teacher a few days before the class, covering basic knowledge, doctrines, legal rulings or legal texts on a particular topic). DEVELOP the student s sense of responsibility and independence. STIMULATE the student s spirit of analysis, openness and adaptability. Other benefits of the Faculty of Law Reduced student numbers to provide individualised support and a quality work environment. An attentive administrative team and teaching staff provide students with personalised coaching (a dedicated unit to help the transition from secondary school to university, tutoring by teachers, spring and summer university for students in diffi culty...). Individual support to help the student achieve academic success. More than 100 Visiting Professors each year. The emphasis is on progressive learning of legal methodology, with the number of tutorial hours matched by the hours spent in practical classes, in small groups of a maximum 25 of students. Innovative learning packages help students to plan their careers. Several packages are available to our students to help them understand the world of work and become fully operational: compulsory internships from bachelor level onwards, language refresher courses (French, English, German, Spanish), participation in the Moot Court competition (European Law Moot Court Competition, Telders, Jessup and the European Court of Human Rights). Cette pédagogie originale qui bouscule les schémas traditionnels place l étudiant au cœur même de sa formation afin qu il en soit un véritable acteur. Celle-ci sera mise en place au fur et à mesure des années universitaires. La réfl exion, l interactivité, l esprit d analyse et la mise en pratique sont les maîtres-mots de cette nouvelle méthode. AMENER l étudiant à acquérir un premier socle de connaissances résultant de sa propre réfl e xion grâce aux pré-read (document transmis par l enseignant quelques jours avant le cours et qui reprend les connaissances fondamentales, doctrines, décisions de justice ou encore textes de lois sur un thème défi ni). DÉVELOPPER la responsabilité et l autonomie de l étudiant. STIMULER l esprit d analyse, d ouverture et la capacité d adaptation de l étudiant. La Faculté de Droit c est aussi Des effectifs réduits pour permettre un suivi individualisé et un environnement de travail qualitatif. Une équipe administrative et un corps professoral attentifs offrent un encadrement personnalisé aux étudiants (unité de transition pour aider le passage du lycée à l université, tutorat par les enseignants, université de printemps et d été pour les étudiants en diffi culté ). Un soutien individuel pour accompagner l étudiant dans la réussite de ses études. Plus de 100 Visiting Professors chaque année. L accent mis sur l apprentissage progressif de la méthodologie juridique avec un volume horaire de travaux dirigés doublé par des conférences de méthodes en petits groupe de 25 étudiants maximum. Des dispositifs originaux pour construire avec l étudiant son projet professionnel. Afi n d appréhender le monde du travail et les rendre opérationnels, plusieurs dispositifs sont accessibles à nos étudiants : stage obligatoire dès la licence, cours de remises à niveau en langues (français, anglais, allemand, espagnol), participation au concours de plaidoiries (European Law Moot Court Competition, Telders, Jessup and the European Court of Human Rigths). 5

6 IELS International and European Law School The International and European Law School (IELS) is a department of the Faculty encompassing all teaching and research activities oriented towards International Law, European Law and Comparative Law, in several languages, on the two Campuses of Lille and Paris. This department is remarkable for its multilingual and multicultural nature, and its innovative, interactive and practical teaching style. The teaching staff is made up of teachers and practitioners from all over the world, who present students with different ways of thinking and constructing their legal reasoning. The aim is to create legal practitioners who are «stakeholders» in their education, not just passive recipients of learning, and who are able to export their skills, making their academic and professional mobility a real asset. 8 RESEARCH RECHERCHE An international legal research department within the C3RD The C3RD, the Faculty of Law s research centre, divides its research into two main areas: risk in law and risk management through law. Its 37 teachers/researchers help to develop a legal theory of risk and collaborate with research laboratories and businesses in France and abroad, incorporating the topic of risk into their fi elds of study. The international and European law department has developed various areas of research which correspond to the programmes (Bachelor s/master s) offered by the IELS: International Law: Human Rights, Security and Development European Union Law: Institutions, treaties, competences, expansion European Competition Law. Un département international de recherche juridique au sein du C3RD Le C3RD, centre de recherche de la Faculté de Droit, structure la recherche autour de deux grands axes que sont les risques du droit et la gestion du risque par le droit. Ses 37 enseignants-chercheurs contribuent à l élaboration d une théorie juridique du risque et collaborent avec les laboratoires de recherche et les entreprises situés en France et à l international, intégrant la thématique du risque dans leurs champs d études. THE GLOBAL LEGAL NETWORK The Law Faculty leads a European research network called Global Legal Network (GLN) specialised on the legal risks in international and European law. The GLN gathers over 50 researchers and professionals in Europe and coordinates their scientific activities in order to participate to EU projects. La faculté de droit dirige un réseau de recherche européen intitulé Global Legal Network (GLN) spécialisé dans les risques juridiques liés au droit international et européen. Le GLN regroupe plus de 50 chercheurs et professionnels du droit en Europe et coordonne leurs activités scientifiques en vue de participer à des projets de l Union européenne. 8

Winning over the professional world With teaching geared towards learning through case studies and legal and professional practices, there are a range of packages to encourage students to make use of the cross-disciplinary knowledge and skills acquired during the classes, as they deal with real-life situations encountered on a daily basis in the professional world. International «Moot Court»: students are coached and prepared to take part in an international moot court competition run by the Court of Justice of the European Union. Law practice seminar: every semester, the students work on practical case studies provided by law fi rms, institutions (European Institutions, UN Institutions, International Law Firms), or courts (Court of Justice of the European Union, International Tribunals, National Courts in European Law) Research seminars: accompanied by a teacher/researcher, students study research topics in European law.
